Ending a story requires a complex understanding of the characters, story, and most importantly the audience’s expectations. To appropriately cap off a series needs tact and skill, which is why so many stories struggle with mediocre endings. However, sometimes the simplest solution is also the best, instead of attempting to guess the audience’s preference for a story’s ending, why not just make two endings to the same story. And this is exactly what Btooom, a popular seinen manga did. Btooom is unique for having two different endings, one happy and one sad, both of which end off the story in wildly different ways, so let’s examine both and decide, which ending was better.
