This is the town’s main beach and is located under its famous walls. It has all kinds of services, including small boat rental, cruises along the coast and a diving centre.

The Gran de Tossa de Mar beach stands out as it is bordered by an impressive mediaeval fortification wall. It is similar to other urban beaches in the Costa Brava: larga, well equipped and with crystal clear waters, and flanked by many hotels and apartments.

To the right of the long sandy beach, we find the silhouette of the cape of Tossa and, on it, the walled compound that protects the Vila Vella. It is, without any doubt, one of the most photographed landscapes of the Costa Brava. The fortification wall, declared a Monument of National Interest, was built between the 12th and 14th centuries, and is exceptionally well preserved.

The beach is 350 metres long with an average width of about sixty metres. It consists of coarse grain pink-coloured sand. The entry slope into the sea is fairly pronounced and the seabed is sandy.

It offers all types of services: showers, toilets, car park, lifeguard, boats with crystal floor, marina, scuba diving centre, and deckchair, sunshade, pedalo, kayak, dinghy rental services. It also has access ramps and amphibious chairs for the disabled. There are many restaurants, bars and ice cream parlours on the promenade.

A street that leaves from the right hand side of the cove and borders the entire cape of Tossa until it gets to the lighthouse, from which there is a great view of the coast and the fortification walls.
