Hey All, Did you know that Scrat was originally a fictional character and species created for Ice Age. Specifically, he was deemed a “saber-toothed squirrel” and wasn’t based on any real extinct animals like the other characters in the film. Coincidentally, however, scientific researchers in 2002 found a fossil in Argentina that bore a resemblance to Scrat, particularly through its long snout and curved fangs for consuming insects. However, in 2011, scientists discovered a small extinct mammal that resembled a shrew with long fangs, and they named it Cronopio Dentiacutus in honor of Scrat!
