August 28, 2003 – Eric Gagne earns his 44th straight save when he retires the side in order in the Dodgers’ 6-3 victory over the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park.

The 27-year-old Los Angeles reliever’s effort, en route to expanding the mark to 55 and winning the Cy Young Award, establishes a new major league record, surpassing Tom ‘Flash’ Gordon, who had saved 43 in a row to begin a season with the Boston Red Sox in 1998.
