This is a short(ish) video explaining a pet peeve I have about the community of Nier: Automata, but is basically a game recommendation. I kept it as spoiler free as possible.

  1. This game is a fucking masterpiece everyone needs to play it. Shit had me crying at the credits too. I frequently go back and listen to its soundtrack every few weeks. Its possibly the best game known to man I don't even care. If anyone is reading this and has not played it or stopped playing it, get on it now. It is well worth it.

  2. Damn, this is one of those rare videos where I can feel the soul put into it. And now legit I want to play this game. I HATE long games, and of course "you need to beat it 5 times to experience it fully and there are a shit tone of endings" scared me away, fuck that. Thank you for explaining this, I really do appreciate this video

  3. mann, dont spend your time to much on character settings (after 2b blowup on early game)
i learn it on hard way.
go afk for an hour and get suffer later when play as 9s.

  4. I guess I’m the only one who found the game very repetitive and too boring to make it all the way through not to mention if this was any other game, it would be crucified for all the fetch quest BS they send you on

  5. This made me want to give the game another go, I quit early through the first playthrough or act I guess because I didn't want to play the game over and over with the same game over and over but a different cutscene, didn't know the mechanics and character you play as changed :O

  6. The biggest lie is people saying you should skip Nier Replicant to play Automata sooner.

  7. I dont care what people say 9s is the best and the most compelling character by far.

  8. 9S is a young male protagonist in an anime-adjacent video game with romance involved.

It’s Nippon law that he must immature and selfish.

  9. Unpopular opinion: Nier is pretentious, the anime style and mechanics make up for the absence of an exceptional story and narrative. Pretty mediocre, and the psychological sequences are weak compared to certain games or stories.

  10. okay so you’re video did exactly what you wanted it to with me. i had it downloaded on my ps4. i thought i beat it but i still wanted to get the other endings. but now that i know i technically havent beaten the game. well! time to go see 2B!

  11. The people who talk the way you say they do must be because you use redditors as your example lol. But also talking about looking at some amdroid ass, even as a joke, is also bad for the game. I know a lot of men played this just for robot ass and action combat, and the narrative was lost on them. If you like this game I sure hope you play Nier Replicant

  12. Spoilers!!

The clever assumption implied in the game I'll always remember is when Adam was hacked into 9S, talking to him, telling him he knows what 9S truly feels deep down about 2B.

"you're thinking how much you wanna [****] 2B, aren't you"

The first time you hear that line, you see how close 9S is trying to get with 2B, so you assume it's "fuck" (since it's a 4 lettered censored word)

But after finding out 2Bs true identity and what she does to 9S, you find out the word was never "fuck"

    It was "kill"

  13. I think the word ending still works because its an ending to a part, whether that part is the last or not. but I understand what you are saying and partially agree I just don't know of a better word to say it.

  14. Lol, that ending. I own the game. Over all, it is an amazing game and I'd definitely recommend it to others. 10/10 times over.

  15. I returned the PC port because it doesn't fully, properly, support keyboard and mouse. No thanks.

  16. Games don't usually make me cry. It happened a fair bit when I was younger, but more recently it just doesn't happen. I've seen the tropes and cliche's, started more or less predicting the stories, it's never my first rodeo anymore. That's what I used to think. Then I played NieR Automata. Take this as your opportunity to skip the rest of this comment if you haven't played through the game yet. This is your spoiler warning. Click read more at your own risk.

Ending A didn't impress me. It was the same typical Disney BS that you'd expect from most game stories these day. I had already started out unimpressed with the story, gotten a bit more into it leading up to the point, and then felt let down. Still, the gameplay was fun and the after credits message said there was more, so I pressed on.

A new character to play as. This was basically me replaying the game again, but this time from the perspective of 9S. I expected it to all be basically the same but with a different gameplay style, but what I actually got was added context to scenes I'd seen before that gradually over time changed everything, and some entirely new scenes that did the same thing. It all lead up to the same events of the A ending, but Ending B overall felt just a little bit more impactful. There was definitely more to this than I had initially assumed, so color me intrigued. Then the teaser for the final story hits. I get Sonic Adventure 2 flashbacks. Oh boy, now we're getting somewhere.

The final story section then proceeded to blow my mind into tiny chunks and then blow those chunks into even tinier chunks. Turns out that the Bunker falls and 2B and 9S are the only ones able to evacuate and escape. That entire sequence involves you arriving on the Bunker to warn the commander about a virus, only to end up learning that the Bunker is already compromised. 2B and 9S attempt to escape with the commander, forced to fight all the YoRHa android friends they've made up to this point who are now under the control of the virus. If you've been doing the sidequests up to this point, you've come to get to really know a number of these YoRHa androids. You've probably grown attached to them. Now, you have to end them, all while knowing that somewhere deep inside they're still conscious, aware of their actions but living out the nightmare of not being in control of their own bodies. You can't save them. You can only end their suffering. The commander decides to bravely go down with her "ship" of sorts, leaving 2B and 9S to escape alone, falling down to Earth in an escape pod as the Bunker blows up behind them, its shattered fragments falling down to Earth along with them.

Ending E made me cry, but the Fall of the Bunker absolutely destroyed me. I went into this game expecting not to really care about the Bunker, and yet I have never, ever cried so hard because of a video game scene as I cried then, and I expect I never will again. This game absolutely does not pull it's punches when it hits you in the emotional gut. When it goes all out with it's emotional scenes, it really goes all out. I can't recommend NieR Replicant enough as well if you're looking for a similar sort of emotional journey. These games know how to make you laugh, and they really, REALLY, know how to make you cry.

  17. Dude did you seriously make a video on the semantics of word conventions? To most people the end credit are the end of a game. That's gonna be "the end of the game" you need to do the same thing in drakengard.

  18. never thought i'd get flashbanged by 2b's ass in a youtube video

  19. "9S sucks" How dare you? I mean I agree with you, but how dare you?! 😤

On a real note tho, for those who can't tell, I do like 9S because of how everything affects the poor kid and what he goes through. Yeah he's a little shit pretty often, but that's why it works, I think

  20. what a BS "lie".. never heard you need to finish game 5 times.. NEVER. Can tell you bigger lie: your video is very interesting

  21. I never got a chance to play this but have always wanted to. I just might after watching this

  22. Honestly love this game so much but I’m with you at 5:59 I don’t know why but I genuinely can’t bring myself to like him and honestly thought I was weird for disliking him glad to see I’m not alone.

If I’m honest NieR:Automata and Replicant are 2 of my favourite games of all time (Definitely play replicant it’s on par with Automata) the themes and questions they bring up about life reallly make you think but we have Yokotaro to thank for this series as he is a madman and a legend.

  23. This is perfectly written. I'm a massive Nier fan and even run a decently sized Nier server. Whenever I recommend it to someone the first thing I talk about is the amazing story, world, and lore, and the second is how awesome the gameplay is.

  24. That it's a good, complete game that is saying something profound?

I'm sorry, but just… WHY IS A SCREEN PLAY CANON AND WHY IS IT ONE OF THE 3 PLAYABLE CHARACTERS BACKSTORY???

Also just… The giving up your save file up thing isn't quote so profound as people make it out to be. Go buy a homeless person a meal and you've literally done more for someone you barely know than deleting your save file.
