So, what is Marvel’s Spider-Man?

“Marvel’s Spider-Man is a 2018 action-adventure game developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man, the super-human crime lord Mister Negative orchestrates a plot to seize control of New York City’s criminal underworld. When Mister Negative threatens to release a deadly virus, Spider-Man must confront him and protect the city while dealing with the personal problems of his civilian persona, Peter Parker.”

  1. This showstopper of a mission was shown off pretty much in its entirety during the E3 2017 trailer for the game, where it wowed the gaming press and nigh-instantly convinced many fans that Insomniac could make a true successor to "Spider-Man 2" and a worthy competitor to the "Batman: Arkham" series. That said, there were some differences from the final product, some slight and others quite noticeable:

    1. In the trailer, Yuri is the one who asked Spidey to look into the Demon-Fisk conflict that starts the mission, while in the final game, Jeff does so instead.

    2. A gadget that you don't get until later in the game got shown off while Spidey was still in stealth-mode. No spoilers here, sorry!

    3. UI and graphical differences, including the infamous puddles that didn't look quite as impressive in the final version of the game, which sparked the ludicrous "Puddlegate" controversy (with Insomniac firing back in one of the updates by including cartoonish puddle stickers in the photo mode).

    4. Wilson Fisk responds differently to the question of who the identity of the Demons' leader is, once his men have been rescued. Specifically, instead of a dismissive "Maybe he's there. Maybe he isn't," the Kingpin ominously tells Spidey "You're about to find out," (with our web-headed hero responding with a surprised "He's here?!"), which leads us right into…

    5. Instead of a generic Demon Swordsman piloting the chopper, the gang's leader was the one doing it (as well as killing Fisk's goon on the roof beforehand), with his true identity very much spoiled despite the game still being a year away from release at the time the trailer came out. As such, I don't recommend watching the trailer in question until you finally meet the leader of the Demons face-to-face in your blind playthrough. The leader of the Demons also doesn't get easily subdued by Spidey once the chopper is trapped, instead grabbing Spidey as his dark power activates, serving as a dramatic cliffhanger.
