HOW MY HAIR HAS CHANGED & MY CURRENT WAVY HAIR ROUTINE: Today I’m sharing a quick chat about how my hair has changed and my current wavy hair routine for my 2a/2b hair. I also want to note that when I use silicones my hair is a looser wave and dries faster than when I don’t 🙂 I’ve linked all of my product faves below and thank you so much for watching xx Audrey

  1. Loved this video Audrey! We have very similar hair textures & the same issues that go along with it. I think that putting on masks in the shower & combing it afterward has really worked for me. So instead of combing it after you get out, comb it in the shower.

  2. Hello Audrey, I really love both your clothing and hair style! Both are actually quite similar to mine, and we are almost twins when it comes to hair and skintone (black-brown thick hair with 2a-2b texture and light Mediterranean olive skin).

From my personal experience, after a long period of streightening, the curls or waves may not form by themselves, so it may require some help from some products before you can achieve that desired style with no styling products. I highly recommend Cocunat's products (I don't know if they are available where you live), they are made from natural ingredients and I have seen a great improvement in the quality of my hair since I swapped to products with natural ingredients. I highly recommend ditching all chemical products when it comes to curly or wavy hair! That, along with a microfiber hair towel, will work wonders on your hair texture!

  3. Bit late to finally watching this but some other lightweight lines I’d recommend are Jessicurl and Moptop. Even Jessicurl’s higher moisture line is about equivalent to the drunk elephant shampoo/conditioner. Those lines have great lightweight styling products too like spray enhancers, cream gels and custards that give my hair some hold and hold in moisture but don’t feel like anything in my hair—just soft and healthy! I have a hard time styling with just cream and oil because my hair seems to take a day to really soak it in so it either feels rough or looks greasy on day 1 when I do that. Another combo I like especially in winter is cream and a lightweight foam to again help hold that moisture in and give more definition but is a bit lower maintenance than the gel styles. Also give Matrix Biolage conditioning balm a try—it smells so lovely! From your list I’ve been really curious about trying Aveda products.

  4. Thank you for this video. Like many others, the lock downs caused me to stop blow drying my 3b/3c hair which I had been doing for 40 years just because it made my hair more manageable. It's been 10 months since I stopped and I have had a dry Deva Cut (uneven results), and Aveda cut (also uneven) and the latest one from a Ouidad stylist that I'm not happy with because she significantly cut the length. Alas, it will grow back. I, too, have tried many, many products but because I have fine hair with higher porosity, I found that I need lighter weight products to manage the frizz. Routine includes most of the Ouidad climate control products along with the Olaplex products when my hair needs extra TLC. Final comment is that I wish had a close friend or two that understood 3C curly hair frustrations and could coach me how to style it. Thanks again.

  5. I have the exact same type of hair as you! Coarse, black 2a/b, low porosity! I'm trying to restore my hair because I think it is protein sensitive.

  6. I have a hair mask to recommend! It's amazing for low porosity hair. I have the same 2a/2b waves as you. I can't believe how nicely this stuff hydrates my hair. It's the Mielle Organics Protein Free Hydrating Conditioner (but it's a deep conditioner that you use only occasionally). Really good!!

  7. Do you blow dry using a diffuser, or just air dry? Like you, my hair takes forever to dry on its own, so in colder weather I have to at least hit the roots with the blow dryer, and use a diffuser attachment to reduce frizz.

  8. I love what you shared about the leave-in, creme, oil combo 🙂 My hair is 2c-3a low-porosity and I have found the leave-in and creme really nourish my hair and together and have been looking for some product to seal it in and heard people recommend gels/mouses. I tried them but neither felt quite a good fit, so I am enthusiastic and hopeful about the oil idea. I love that it is a more natural option as well. 🙂 In terms of my tips to share about leaving hair product free, I have found that using a conditioner (I like a water based conditioner) on my ends (from about my ear lobes down) before I shampoo has made a huge difference in my hair health and luster and manageability even without product. Especially with the gentle shampoo/deep cleaning shampoo and leave-in conditioner as a base routine. I hope that is helpful for you. I think you look absolutely great with your hair expressing its natural curl more. Thanks for sharing about your journey with me!

  9. I’m a 2b and just embraced the Curly Girl Hair Method in May 2020. I thought it was so cool to see that you are also embracing your natural hair! I really believe that this is where the beauty industry is going: people embracing their natural features and we all stop chasing trends.

  10. Correction! In my suggestion I recommend a water-based conditioner applied to ends before shampooing. Water-based is correct (the first ingredient being water without a lot of oils in it) However, I prefer a conditioner with some oil, i.e. Argan oil, along with other water based ingredients, because I also have low-porosity hair. My understanding is that the oil helps with penetration. SO I just wanted to add that. Also, though, I have a lot of hair the strands themselves are on the finer side and so I like water-based with a bit of oil so that my hair retains its volume and bounce! It your hair strands are thicker or coarser, you may like a conditioner with more oil. Bonne Chance!

  11. What resources did you use to discover all these things regarding your hair and how to take care of it?

  12. I had never heard of hair porosity prior to this video and I just learned that my hair is high porosity. I'm going to try the LOC method to see if it helps retain moisture and make my hair look less frizzy. By the way, do you use any scalp treatments such as scrubs or exfoliants? Scalp care seems very trendy now and would love to know your opinion. Also, your natural hair looks gorgeous. Love those big, bouncy curls.

  13. We have the same hair type… I damaged my hair so bad by using the flat iron often 😬… I admire you letting your natural hair be how God created it! 😃 I am now leaving it natural, and like it! And yes, I experimented with lots of products as well!
You look great! I think you found the right products!!! 🤩🙋🏻‍♀️

  14. Thank you for sharing your routine. My hair is very similar to yours in texture but a different color, also low porosity. You’ve inspired me to try a simpler routine for my wash day tomorrow! Instead of scrunching in lots of products I’m going to follow your lead of gentleness and just use my curl cream to see what happens. I have also only embraced my natural wavy texture in the past couple of years, and it has been liberating to allow my hair to not be perfect but authentic. I really enjoy not fighting with it anymore!

  15. Audrey, I love the way your hair looks and I have the same hair texture as you so I was wondering about your haircut – is all of your hair the same length or do you have layers?

  16. I love your hair, Audrey! I'm a curly girl too, and most of my life I fought the curl. I've been embracing it for several years now and since I have salt & pepper color on top of the curls, I get compliments on my hair every time I go out. So funny to me! (My hubby teases me about it) My mane is curlier than yours, but I follow a similar routine. I use lots of thick conditioner in the shower, I like a leave-in and then gel and a wee bit of oil at the end of dry time (which takes forever — low porosity, thick hair). I have tried not using products, but my hair ends up VERY fluffy and poofy. I'm SO thankful for the many choices of products out there that help curly girls like us get the best out of our hair.

  17. We have the same hair, and I find cgm too demanding in the time and effort per se. I hate cheap shampoo too, it is a curse for textured hair. I love your channel!

  18. Thanks Audrey! I was looking at your video and I suddenly realized you part your hair on side and it looks so chic. Tried to change mine from mid to side (I have similar thick hair) but they just won’t stay in place, they kinda go everywhere! Any tips?

  19. I personally like body and conditioned hair and Herbal Essence seems to really work for me. Along with a weekly hair oil mask, gentle massage a few times a week, a weekly scalp exfoliation and of course the obvious…water and stress management 👌🏼.

  20. Your voice is so calming and relaxing naturally, you'd be really good at making guided meditations. I'm naturally always so nervy and high-strung, I'm always awed by someone who doesn't have to "work hard" to try and control and contain themselves and are just so calm naturally lol.

  21. Hi Audrey! I appreciate you sharing this as it seems we have a similar hair type. Question please, do you usually just airdry or use a hairdryer after application of products?

  22. Hi, Audrey! I, too, am now embracing my black roots and loving it 🙂 In the last year, though, I have grown some silver hair. Do you also have silvers already? If so, do you colour at home? I'm not too keen on playing with hair dyes at home, and instead, just thinking of using hair colour brush-wands to cover silvers. Was wondering what you do 🙂

  23. I don’t use any products. I just wash and condition & let it do it’s thing. I don’t even comb it after my shower. Just dab the ends and let it air dry.

  24. I’ve been waiting for another hair video, I was late to this one! Thank you Audrey x
