When one door closes another one opens. My grandma used to say that to me all the time. I still live my life that way. Don't keep your eye on the closed door walk a few steps and locate that other door. Well you found your other door to open. What a great way to start this year with a little help from each side. I could see that the little oink-oink really took a toll on Mamma. You could see it in her facial expressions.

Im sure you get many helpful comments from actual farmers, and im just a garden variety housewife from Johannesburg…but here is a thought I've had…
I'm sure you fence off regular sections of your pastures and I know your land is fairly flat but low lying as I've seen how you struggle in downpours…
Have you considered making a dirt mound or a mound made of other materials, about a meter high and about 2 or 3 square meters in size..where your animals can escape to during such dangerous times.. perhaps to even keep their sleep shelters on, that would double as a safe and warm and dry place at such times.
Reminds me of Job and how he was rewarded for his faith with everything he lost plus some. So happy to see this blessing.
