🌻Learn all about the benefits of green tea for your natural hair. It’s a real strengthening treatment. Eggs and mayonnaise do NOT qualify as protein treatments because the proteins are too big to fit in our hair strands, whether they are low porosity or not. The recipe is below 👇🏾

(Excuse the fluff in my hair. My satin bonnet tends to fall off at night and the blankets get all stuck in my hair. I need silk pillowcases.)

🍵 Green Tea Strengthening Treatment🍏

💡Do this after cleansing your hair, or if your hair isn’t extremely dirty, you can use this as a mild cleanser.

🍶Ingredients🍶

• 2 green tea bags

• 500ml water

• 1 tablespoon Raw honey (I got 1kg for R90 at Foodlover’s Market)

• 2 tablespoons avocado oil (or any other carrier oil you prefer. It could be grape seed oil, olive oil, coconut oil, etc.)

• 2 teaspoons unfiltered Apple cider vinegar

• 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (completely optional)

• 10 drops of tea tree essential oil or peppermint essential oil

(or any essential oil of your choice, but peppermint and tea tree EO are naturally cleansing. *Peppermint EO* is a vasodilator, which means it increases blood flow to the scalp, encouraging growth. Plus, the tingle it gives the scalp is very pleasant. *Tea tree EO* is great for combating dandruff. Both EOs have antimicrobial and antifungal properties)

• A gigantic ass mug (500ml) (Don’t judge: I was given these HUGE mugs from Woolies as gifts. Perfect for hot cocoa.)

• Measuring jug

• Applicator bottle

🍵Directions🍵

1. Boil water in a kettle and make a cup of green tea like you normally would. Make sure you have a huge mug that can accommodate close to 500ml and place both teabags in the mug. If you don’t have a mug of this size, like a normal person, you can use two normal-sized mugs and place one teabag in each cup. The amount of tea you need depends on how thick and long your hair is. So, it’s up to you.

2. Add the honey to the hot tea. Then let the tea steep.

3. Once the tea is cool enough (make sure it’s still a little warm though. The warmth helps open your hair’s cuticles so that the hair strands can receive the product better. You can’t really cleanse your hair with cold water) to put on your scalp, transfer the solution to the measuring jug.

4. In the measuring jug, add the apple cider vinegar, the carrier oil and essential oils. Mix well.

5. Pour the mixture into the applicator bottle*.

6. After your scalp and hair strands are drenched in the green tea treatment, put a plastic cap or bag over your head. Leave the treatment in for about 30mins to an hour.

7. After you’ve let the treatment work, rinse it out.

8. Deep condition as normal. It is important that you do a deep conditioning after the green tea treatment, as the green tea is very astringent and while it strengthens the hair, it can make it brittle. Doing a deep conditioning treatment will help restore the moisture balance of the hair.

After incorporating this treatment into your hair care regimen, you should start to see results. Personally, I saw the effects of the green tea the very first time I used it, but my hair was not damaged, so depending on the health of your hair, it may take some time for you to see a major difference in the breakage and shedding.

Enjoy! 🌻

  1. Love how you delivered this. I absolutely love green tea I use it on my hair when you use it on your hair make sure its warm I drink it and I clean with it😁 Blessings 🙏🏽

  2. Hello, I'm a bit confused here…so the deep conditionning is the mix of the acv, carrier oil and EOs? Or do I mix the above ingredients with green tea and honey? And use them all at once?

In my understanding, I have to use the green tea+honey on clean hair, let it sit for 30 minutes, then use the mix of acv, etc..for deep conditionning…
Sorry, for the mistakes I'm a french speaker
