It has often been said that versatility is the key to longevity. Rika Kihira and Satoko Miyahara (紀平 梨花 and 宮原 知子) tested several styles on and off the ice when they visited Tom Dickson at the World Arena in January 2019. Here they are testing ‘funk’ as they brainstormed program ideas for next season.

Love this. It's smart to have them try sharper movements outside of their wheelhouse. I also appreciate the Hamada/Dickson strategy of making these young women all around skaters. Hence why these two have been killing it this season with some of the best programs.

Nice. Thought Satoko would be shy and awkward but she good. Watch Yuna Kim’s hip hop dance class for comparison. Yuna looked ready to buy the building, fire the teacher and go make a commercial.
That is awesome. Love to see them doing something different.
Rika's movements seem crisper than Satoko's. I'm quite excited for what they'll be doing next season!

It’s good to see satoko seems as if she stepping outside of comfort zone which is a plus … she always seem so well rehearsed that it comes of almost bland so kudos to her!!!
宮原は口で息つぎしている。これは普通だと思う。だれでも激しい運動をするときは口で息をする。しかし、紀平はずっと口を閉じたままで、鼻で息をしている。リンク上でのレッスンでも同じだ。SPやFSの演技終了後も鼻で息をしていたのを思い出した。息が乱れない。

was hoping to see Satoko transfer those moves to the ice rink lol.
お互い内心“火花”を散らしているのだと思う。▼知子も梨花も好きだ。だが、その「好き」の内容が違う。知子のは、ほとんど“信仰”であり、梨花は“可愛いな”かな。

やっぱり紀平は、ずっとダンスを習っているだけあってうまいな。印象的なのは、肩と首の可動域が広いこと。肩甲骨を左右分離して自由に動かせるし、首を上体に沈みこませる動きもできてる。ヒップホップやロボットダンスやってきたんだと思う。普通の陸上のダンサーとしても十分鑑賞に耐えるダンスができると思う。
それから、エテリ組のダンスレッスンのまねだとか言ってる馬鹿がいるが、ほんとアホだと思う。
これは一般的なダンスレッスンじゃなくて、来季の振り付け実験。そう説明に書いてあるのに読んでいない。

Japanese people can't dance, they don't have rhythmic capabilities.
You can clearly see that Satoko had classical ballet lessons many years. It shows.
