[ワシントン８日ロイター] – 米議会上院は８日、トランプ大統領が実業家ジョージ・グラス氏を駐日大使に指名した人事を承認した。

グラス氏は投資銀行出身で、第１次トランプ政権では駐ポルトガル大使を務めた。このポルトガル大使時代に、中国の対ポルトガル投資に警鐘を鳴らし、中国による新型コロナウイルスのパンデミックへの対応を厳しく批判したことで知られる。

２０２４年の米大統領選挙でグラス氏は、トランプ氏に対する大口献金者の１人として勝利に貢献した。
