In the weeks and days leading up to the privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1st April 1987, Japan Railways JR released a series of television commercials featuring Kumiko Goto 後藤 久美子 creating public awareness of the new brands under Japan Railways banner. These companies have simply become known as JR and consist of JR East, JR Hokkaido, JR Central, JR West, JR Shikoku and JR Kyushu.

The video begins with a daily countdown of a girl on a train platform telling viewers of how many days there are to go until the transition to Japan Railways.
