Whisper of the Heart is actually set in a real place! – Tama New Town, Tokyo. 耳をすませばのモデルになった住宅地:多摩ニュータウン

I’ve had a long calling to actually visit the place that directly or indirectly inspired many locations in the film. It currently is my favourite film of all time.

It was a very surreal and peaceful experience location scouting the whole area. I had a huge smile on my face walking in Shizuku’s footsteps while listening to the films fantastic soundtrack by Yuji Nomi. While the film locations stay awesomely true to the real life counterparts, some are not geographically in the same places as the film and others I showed were (what I believe) inspiration. The film Pom Poko (平成狸合戦ぽんぽこ) is also set in this town!

中学生月島雫と天沢聖司の恋愛物語で、 聖蹟桜ヶ丘 周辺が主な舞台となっているが、一部で愛宕・東寺方団地が登場する。

    I really appreciate the effort you put into making this.
    Like many others have said in the comments, this movie also has a special place in my heart.
    Some might find it bland because not much happens, but I love the way Whisper of the Heart portrays the everyday life of a teenager
    in the 90s' suburban Tokyo. The animation, music, storyline, and everything else come together perfectly to make me feel at home.
    It makes you feel nostalgic for the old days when there wasn't much technology around.
    Though I love technology and would find it hard to live without it, I find it nice to watch this movie now and then
    and reminisce about the analog world, where everyone had landlines and used library cards.
    I'll never get tired of this movie. I hear that a live-action sequel to it is coming out. Looking forward to watching it.
    It'll be interesting to see Shizuku and Seiji all grown up and now living in the digital world.

    This is just a first person narrative that I had after I watched "Whisper of the Heart" Hope this not too boring and lame for you all. (If I have wrong grammers/spelling etc. please feel free to reply to my comment😊)

    It was the 21st night of December when I decided to go for a walk.
    As the snow continues to fall from the sky I'm walking down the side walk. 

    I put my hand in my pockets to warm it up because it was so cold, and gazed up at the night sky felt so relaxing and calm, so I closed my eyes and listened to the crowd of people passing by, then I faintly heard a song that seemed familiar, so I opened my eyes and it was coming from a radio in a store, which piqued my interest, so I went to take a quick look and saw an old lady sewing some clothes, which piqued my interest,
    And I noticed this lovely cat statue beside the window.

    "What a lovely kitty!"

    I walked inside the store to inquire if the cat I had seen was for sale, to which the lady replied:

    "I'm sorry, my dear, that one isn't for sale; I just put it there for decoration while I wait for it and its partner to be reunited."

    "reunited?"

    "Yes, sweetheart, this cat has a companion, Louise, and The Baron is her partner."

    大学受験期に東京で泊まりながら何校か受験してたんだけど、1日だけ空いてた日に次の試験の勉強をするでもなく聖蹟桜ヶ丘に電車で行ったんだよね。聖地を歩きながら「ここかぁ…」なんて大きな感動は無くしみじみとしてた。でも不思議とどんな旅行とかよりも深く記憶に残ってるよ。

    見ながら絵を描くなって言う意味がわかった。似てるけど、ちょっと違う線の丸み。店の見え方。色々な見え方が、本来の見え方と、違う。だからこそジブリの絵は、大好き。描き方も、懐かしさ、温かさを感じる
