“Zao” is the collective name for the Zao Mountain Range that stretches across Miyagi and Yamagata Prefectures, with an elevation of 1,841 meters. From the base in Zao Onsen, Yamagata Prefecture, you can enjoy splendid autumn foliage views from train windows and observation decks on two ropeway routes. The autumn leaves typically begin to change color from late September around the summit area, and the hot spring town starts to turn colorful from mid to late October.

「蔵王」は宮城県と山形県にまたがる蔵王連峰の総称であり、「蔵王山」という単独峰があるわけではない。蔵王連峰の中で、宮城県側の部分が「宮城蔵王」、山形県側の部分が「山形蔵王」と呼ばれている。日本百名山の一つで全国的に知られ最高峰は標高1841m。標高900mの地にあるのが山形県側の蔵王温泉で、ここからのロープウェイの車窓や展望台からの紅葉風景が知られる。紅葉は9月下旬に山頂方面から始まり温泉街が色づくのは10月中旬から下旬頃。また、
蔵王中央高原には紅葉が見事な「ドッコ沼」や温泉街のはずれにある、ため池の「盃湖」は、噴火でできた静かな湖で散策コースもあり、紅葉も美しい。

    蔵王から昨日帰って来たばかりですが、紅葉はほんの少しでした。でもお釜がみられて、感激😂😮しました。１５分遅いと霧で、見られなかったです。３度目のトライであの大自然感動😢しました

    Yamagata is a hidden tourist destination rich in nature and beautiful. Besides the fantastic swamp, Mt.Zao in particular has a crater lake called ''Okama", which was created by an eruption, and the autumn leaves are vivid in color, and I think the contrast between them is one of the most spectacular sights in Japan.
    Yamagata is one of the famous places that travelers from overseas should definitely visit.
    Yamagata is also famous for Wagyu beef, Sangen pork, ramen, mutton, taro, rice, soba, ball type konnyaku, Dadacha-edamame, cherries, pears, and sake.
