I used the first three days of the Obon holiday to travel to Morioka City in Iwate Prefecture and then moved on to Ichinoseki City the next day. Surprisingly, the area around the station in Ichinoseki City was quite empty, which seemed unusual for the middle of a three-day Obon weekend. The shopping street near the station had many shuttered shops, giving the area a somewhat deserted feeling. Despite having both a Shinkansen and a local train station, I felt that the area could use a bit more liveliness.
