During the first three days of the Obon holiday, I traveled to Iwate Prefecture, starting in Morioka City, then moving to Ichinoseki City, and finally to Ōshū City. In Ōshū City, I noticed groups of people, likely locals and those who had returned home for Obon, gathering near the station for drinks. Mizusawa-Esashi Station, which serves the Shinkansen, is somewhat inconveniently located for those on foot. The station was originally located in Mizusawa City, making it easier to identify as Mizusawa Station. However, after the Heisei-era mergers that created Ōshū City, it’s become less clear that this is the central station.
